  1. How do I get the latest WeatherEye?
  2. Download Checklist:

    • Ensure that you are not currently running another WeatherEye. Our latest version is WeatherEye 4.0. If you already have the application open and saved on your computer, you will not be able to download another.
    • Ensure that you are connected to the internet. An internet connection is required to get the WeatherEye files sent to your computer and gather updated weather information.
    • System Administrator Access: ensure that you have administrative rights to download application software to your PC. If you are at home, you or the individual who set up your computer should be able to assist you. If you are at work, your IT Personnel will be able to assist.
    • When the application asked you to Run or Save, the fastest way to download the application is to "RUN".

    • Security Pop-Ups may happen during your download process, make sure you "ALLOW" the WeatherEye to run. These security warnings are a function of your Windows Operating System (XP, Vista or Windows 7) or security software, like Norton Antivirus. It is their job to alert you when you are downloading software to ensure you want to do it. Our promise to you is that our software is safe to use and does not contain any spyware whatsoever.
    • Are you running a firewall protector for you computer? If you are running Norton Personal Firewall and would like to install the WeatherEye, first make sure that the Norton Firewall icon in the system tray is allowing incoming traffic. Once you begin the download process, Norton will recognize that The Weather Network is attempting to connect to your computer and will display the dialog box, "Always block connections from this program on all ports (recommended)" DO NOT SELECT OK (doing so will block the download process and any future downloads from ) On the screen, you will see a pull-down menu in which you will select. "Always allow connection from this program on all ports". If this popup message appears again during the installation process or during the initial start up of WeatherEye, again select "Always allow connection from this program on all ports" prior to clicking the OK button. If during the installation process, you accidentally clicked the default selection, "Always block connection from this program on all ports" you will need to access Norton Personal Firewall and remove from your blocked list. You can change this setting by right clicking on the Norton Personal Firewall icon in your system tray and then selecting Norton Personal Firewall (at the top of the menu items). This will open up a dialogue box where you will select "Statistics" from the left hand navigation menu and then click the "View Logs" button. Within the Log Viewer window, select "firewall" from the left hand list then click on the page with the "x" through it in the top bar. Click "yes" when asked if you want to clear all log entries. To download the WeatherEye, visit and follow the prompts to download the application.
    • Proxy Servers: If you work behind a proxy server, you may have challenges downloading the application, it is best to speak with your IT support staff or service provider to determine your server settings.
    • You need Windows XP, Vista or 7 running on your PC. Windows 98 and 2000 users are limited to version 3.0. Unfortunately, due to hardware demands for WeatherEye 4.0, we can not support the app on older versions of Windows.
    • Are you on a Mac or Linux system? WeatherEye 4.0 does not work on a Mac or Linux machine at this time. Please see our other apps for one that might work for you.
    • I did not receive the new upgrade. You should be automatically upgraded to WeatherEye 4.0. If you are not seeing the application, it could be because the files have been moved from their original installation folder. The WeatherEye files should reside here:
      Windows XP:
      C:\Documents and Settings\[user]\Local Settings\Application Data\TheWeatherNetwork\WeatherEye
      Windows Vista/7:

      If you are still having troubles access the latest version, please reinstall the application from here.

  1. Where's My Weather Info?
Issue Possible Fix
Where is the short cut in my task tray? When the Application is downloaded on Windows 7 the temperature icon remains hidden in the task tray menu. To move it simply click on the arrow to show hidden icons. Drag and drop the Weather App. Icon into the system tray.
I'm receiving a No Internet Connection screen on my WeatherEye. An active Internet connection is required for the WeatherEye to pull the latest weather information. New forecast data is sent every 15 minutes when the application is running and you are connected. The WeatherEye searches for new forecast data every 15 minutes, if it has tried unsuccessfully for several times, it might time out until the next scheduled update. By minimizing or exiting the application and restarting, this should restart the scheduled update.
I don't see a cloud or sun icon and there is no temperature for my city in the task bar For some cities, the forecast station does not supply the current weather with an observation. However, it does provide data to our forecast centre for the short and long term forecast display.
The WeatherEye is open but the information is taking a long time to load WeatherEye 4.0 is more like a mini weather station with all the local forecast information, maps, videos and more. We do recommend a broadband connection to view the application. If you are finding that, due to your connection speeds, the WeatherEye 4.0 is not that responsive, we do recommend that you try one of our other apps on for size. I was getting data and now it's gone. The WeatherEye is scheduled to call for data every 15 mins. To manually call for new data, click the Refresh button on the application window. Your WeatherEye will get the latest information available from our servers. Also, to service our 2 million WeatherEye users, we serve our weather data from a large network of servers. If one of the servers is having issues you may not get updated data immediately. By manually calling for new data, the application should retrieve data from one of the operational servers. If you are still having issues after a significant period of time, please contact us here and we will address your concerns as quickly as possible. We apologize for any frustrations or service issues.
I work behind a proxy server. Proxy settings can be set under the "Options" tab on the top-right of the application. At the bottom of the Options page, you will then need to enter your IP address of the proxy server. Proxy information can be obtained from your ISP or IT personnel.
Maps tab does not work We recommend Internet Explorer 7 or 8 and above to view our maps tab. Service will be intermittent and could be a poor experience with IE6. You can download IE8 from here.

  1. How do I change my city or other default settings?

    • Click on the Options Menu, this will allow you to change or set all your default settings.

    • On the city you want to change, click the "Edit" button.

    • From this Advanced Options Menu, you can change your saved city, change the label of what that city means to you (Home, Work, School etc.), as well as you can make the following adjustment to your WeatherEye.

    • Display on Startup (Default) - this means that each time your computer restarts, your WeatherEye will launch the full window on your screen with the latest weather information.
    • Always On Top (Optional) - this means your WeatherEye, will also be on top of any document, email or website you have open on your computer screen. You can always minimize the applications by pressing the large red (X).
    • Hide After (Options) - this means you can request that the WeatherEye automatically close after a certain period of time. It essentially minimizes itself. Good job WeatherEye!

    You can also "ADD A CITY", by clicking on this link within the Options menu.

    • Search for your city name by typing it into the option menu search box and clicking "Search". After you find the city you are looking for, click on it to determine your selection.

    • After adding a city you will have multiple temperatures in your system tray, they can be moused over to find the city name and observations.

    • If you want to remove a city, just click on the delete button.

    Changing Other Default Settings

    • Can I view weather information for more than one city with WeatherEye?
      With our WeatherEye 4.0 application, you can view weather conditions for up to ten different cities from your desktop. To add a city, click the "Options" button located near the upper right corner of the WeatherEye application. Click the "Add a City" link/button then choose a location and city, then click "OK" to save the information. The new city is available by clicking on the WeatherEye icon located in your desktop tray.
    • How do I change the temperature from Celsius to Fahrenheit?
      Click on the "Options" button on the top-right of the application, and then select either Imperial or Metric as the 'Unit of Measurement' in your top-level settings. Changes to the 'Unit of Measurement' preference will affect all cities you are tracking through WeatherEye.
    • How do I change my language settings?
      Click on the "Options" button on the top-right of the application, and then select your language of choice in your top-level settings. Your language preference will affect all cities you are tracking through WeatherEye.

  1. What can the WeatherEye do?
TODAY The TODAY tab features your current conditions and short term information for your selected city. It features temperatures, conditions, wind, pressure, UV readings, feels like temp (when applicable), Probability of Precipitation (P.O.P), humidity.
LONG TERM The LONG TERM TAB features the conditions, hi/lo temperatures, P.O.P and Quantity of Precipitation (Rain/Snow Expected) for the next 5 days.
HOURLY The HOURLY tab features the hour by hour conditions, expected temperature and P.O.P for the next 12 - 24 hours. To see the next 12 hours within this tab, click on this link.
14-DAY The 14 DAY tab features the 14 day trend of hi/lo temperatures and conditions for the next 14 days for your selected city. To view this information in a graph within the WeatherEye, click on this link.
SATELLITE AND RADAR The SATELITTE AND RADAR tab shows radar precipitation, cloud cover and forecasted precipitation for your region. The application is zoomed in at 60km with your selected city centered on the map. This should be optimal for viewing your region. If you would like to see other parts of your area, the map controls will allow you to change your zoom and click and drag the map.
The ROAD / AERIAL links will allow you to change the background of your map.You can also stop, pause, rewind and fast forward the imagery using these controls.
VIEWER PHOTOS The VIEWER PHOTOS tab will showcase a gallery of local photos submitted by The Weather Network audience members. Click on each picture to enlarge it in the box on the right of your tab.
VIDEOS Our VIDEO tab features forecast videos from The Weather Network. Choose your preferred video by highlighting it with the orange square; then click PLAY on the video player.
TOP STORIES At the bottom of most tabs, TOP WEATHER NEWS STORIES are featured. By clicking on the link, you can open a window to read the entire story.
ACTIVE WEATHER The WeatherEye can be critical to watching ACTIVE WEATHER in your community. In the case of Active weather or warning for your area, the WeatherEye temperature icon will flash red. As well, a banner will feature the warning across the top of your application window. This will click through to for the full details.

  1. How do I uninstall the WeatherEye?
  2. We are sorry we have not met your expectations, but if you still want to uninstall the WeatherEye, please follow these steps:

    • Close the application off your desktop
    • Then go to your START menu – find The Weather Network folder, and expand to see the "Uninstall WeatherEye".
    • Click on this and run the "Uninstall" program.
    • You may need to restart your computer to remove all temporary local files that stored your city preferences and shortcuts.
