Damaging winds picked up in parts of Alberta and western Saskatchewan Tuesday night.

"And those powerful gusts will continue for much of the day on Wednesday as well," says Brian Dillon, a meteorologist at The Weather Network.

By the early morning hours on Wednesday, Assiniboia had already seen gusts close to 100 km/h. Places like Saskatoon and Regina have recorded gusts closer to 70 km/h.

There were reports of downed power lines in the Weyburn area early Wednesday. The gusty conditions proved to be a challenge for crews on the tarmac  at the Calgary Airport as well.

Winds are expected to diminish by the evening hours as the cold front slides through.
