March 26, 2013 — A magnitude-6.2 earthquake struck near Guatemala City on Monday. Less than 12 hours later, a magnitude-5.5 quake struck near Mexico City.

A magnitude-6.2 earthquake hit near Guatemala City Monday evening at a depth of about 200 km.

According to local media, residents barely felt the shaking.

Less than 12 hours later, at 7:04 a.m. on Tuesday, a magnitude-5.5 quake struck near Mexico City, more than 1,000 kilometres away.

The quake, which occurred at a depth of 7.6 km, caused buildings to sway and triggered an earthquake alarm.

Thousands of panicked residents rushed out onto the streets. Minutes later, a second quake occurred.

There have been no reports of damages or injuries from any of the earthquakes.
