One tornado touched down Wednesday night in the Saint Louis suburb of Hazelwood, ripping the roofs off several homes.

That's according to Hazelwood's communications manager. No serious injuries were reported.

Missouri Governor Jay Nixon declared a state of emergency in the state. Nixon is touring the damaged areas on Thursday.

Another tornado touched down in Arkansas, damaging at least 33 homes and leaving three people injured in Van Buren County.

Officials say the twister destroyed the Botkinburg Foursquare Church.

Drivers were also hit by the strong winds leaving some cars and trucks overturned.

More severe weather is expected to continue in the area through Thursday.
