November 10, 2012 — Up to 10 people have died in northern Haiti after a night of heavy rains, a government official said on Friday.

John Henry Small, Office of Haitian Civil Protection, said most of the victims were swept away by floods that inundated their homes.

The heavy rains in Port-Au-Prince occurred just two weeks after Hurricane Sandy caused severe flooding across the region.

According to authorities, Sandy claimed 54 lives and destroyed 70 percent of crops along the southern coast.
