Section of Trans-Canada Highway remains closed following landslide in Newfoundland

Nathan Coleman, Reporter
November 20, 2012 — A section of the Trans-Canada Highway in Newfoundland remains closed due to a landslide that occurred on Saturday.

Traffic is being re-routed through the small community of Ivony's Cove.

Constable Gina Wheeler of the Clarenville RCMP says they were first made aware of the landslide on Saturday around 4 p.m. when they received a call from a motorist who reported rocks falling from a cliff.

Luckily, there were no injuries, but Wheeler says the trailer portion of a transport truck was struck by falling rocks.

The Department of Transportation is blasting large rocks at the site.

Officials say the section of highway could be closed for up to a week.
