February 3, 2013 — About 5,000 NB Power customers were still without power on Saturday, days after wild winds whipped through the region on Thursday, although almost all had been reconnected by noon Sunday.

New Brunswick Power said crews were making steady progress restoring electricity for the remaining customers without power, and by early Sunday morning, the number had dropped to around 140 people, mostly in the Rothesay area.

The utility says it expects the restoration effort to continue until Sunday evening.

At the height of the wind storm, NB Power reported 39,000 customers had lost electricity.

Utility crews from Quebec and Nova Scotia were called in to help with the restoration effort.

Another winter storm packing powerful winds and heavy snow appears to be targeting the region. Winds are expected to intensify across Atlantic Canada starting Sunday evening.
