October 14, 2012 — Event organizers are calling all Canadians to join a waste reduction movement.

Reduce, reuse and recycle -- that's the message that Waste Reduction Week is promoting.

The national campaign will kick off Monday with a long list of schools, local government offices and businesses set to take part.

Participants will carry out a variety of eco initiatives aimed to raise waste awareness and reduce garbage.

According to the Recycling Council of British Columbia, Canadians generate 31 million tonnes of garbage a year.

About 30% of that is recycled.
