Winter fashion in Edmonton

Farah Dhalla, reporter
March 25, 2013 — Fashion Week is on in western Canada.

The calendar may say "spring", but winter weather is still alive and well in parts of Alberta. As a result, Edmonton fashion designers are using the cold weather as inspiration behind some of their latest designs.

Strutting the catwalk in a warm winter coat and six inch heels is a perfect combination of style and function.

The fashion show was part of the first-ever ‘For the Love of Winter’ design competition in Edmonton, and part of Western Canada Fashion Week.

City officials say that promoting winter clothing helps the local fashion industry -- and it ties in nicely with Edmonton’s WinterCity strategy.

Acording to Susan Holdsworth, WinterCity Strategy Project Manager, Edmonton is striving to become a "leader in innovative winter business, and fashion is a big part of that."

Even Edmonton's Mayor, Stephen Mandel, stopped by to take in the show.

Western Canada Fashion Week runs until March 28th.
