March 11, 2013 — A powerful earthquake struck Papua New Guinea Monday morning, no threat of tsunami.

There were no reports of major damage or serious injuries after a magnitude 6.5 earthquake hit Papua New Guinea Monday morning.

According to officials, the earthquake's epicentre was relatively deep and offshore, making it unlikely to cause any major problems in the area.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center says there was no destructive or widespread tsunami threat either.

Papua New Guinea is on the "Ring of Fire," an arc of earthquake and volcanic zones that stretches around the Pacific Rim.
