A look back at the Hamilton floods

July 27, 2012 — On July 26, 2009, huge amounts of rain fell in a short amount of time in Hamilton, Ontario.
The heavy rain caused flooding in the streets and in over 1,000 homes.
The Red Hill Valley Parkway was overcome with the deluge of rain. Parts of the Queen Elizabeth Way, a major highway connecting Toronto with the United States, were also under water.
At a Conservation Authority weather station, 109.1 mm of rain was recorded in less than two hours -- more than what would usually fall during a hurricane.
