Armed with a team of doctors, sailors, lifeguards and her coach, 14 year-old Annaleise Carr began her 52 km trek across Lake Ontario Saturday evening.
Now -- she's become the youngest person to swim across the lake, and in doing so, raised more than $115,000 for Camp Trillium, a children's cancer organization.
Strong winds made the trip a challenge, but Carr persevered.
"It was actually a little more challenging than we anticipated," said Media Relations Coordinator, Ross Keegan. "When she left Niagara-on-the-Lake, the conditions were fairly calm and she was getting a really good push from the Niagara River. And as the evening went on it got a little more tumultuous, the waves picked up and she got into four to five foot seas."
She crossed the finish line and emerged from the lake in Toronto's Marilyn Bell Park just before 9:00 p.m. Sunday. She was met by her parents and her doctor, who declared her in remarkably good physical and mental shape.
