According to Environment Canada, this past August was one of the hottest months on record for the province of Quebec.
In Montreal, for example, the average temperature reached 22.2°C -- well above the average monthly temperature of 19.7°C. The all-time record is 22.6°C, set back in August 1947.
The month is also notable for its lack of precipitation. Only 47.4 mm fell in Montreal last month, a little more than half of the 90.7 mm that usually falls in August.
In 2011, more than 220 mm fell on the city in August, setting a new record.
