August 4, 2012 — Hot temperatures have invaded BC's south coast, with temperatures feeling near 30°C with the humidex.

There will be warm temperatures in BC and neighbouring Alberta
It's hot and sunny along British Columbia's south coast -- and the warm weather is expected to last through the weekend.
Environment Canada has issued special weather statements for Metro Vancouver, Fraser Valley, Howe Sound, Whistler, East Vancouver Island and Inland Vancouver Island.
A strong ridge of high pressure has moved into the region and it will remain in place until Monday, when a weak upper disturbance will cool things down.
In the meantime, residents are being reminded to stay hydrated, wear loose clothing and avoid strenuous outdoor activities.
On Saturday, several cities set new temperature records for the day of August 4th, including Port Alberni and Puntzi Mountain, where previous records were set just under 20 years ago. Victoria also set a new record with a high of 28.3° C.
For the most part, temperatures will hover in the high 20s -- but it will feel closer to 30°C with the humidex.
The warm weather is a welcome break for many, following a slow start to summer for a large part of B.C.
Weeks of grey skies, rain and cool temperatures earned the month of June the nickname "June-uary" -- and left some residents wondering when summer would start to make an appearance.
