The Ex runs from August 17 - September 3
In 2010, the Canadian National Exhibition became eco-logo certified. It also claims it's the 'Greenest Fair in North America.'
"The CNE is the greenest fair in North America because everyone participates in our green initiatives here on site," says Virginia Ludy, Director of Operations at the CNE. "We're very fortunate that we're on a site like exhibition place where, year round, environmental initiatives are at the forefront."
You don't have to look far to see how The Ex has gone green.
During the day, the Midway Lights are off. Recycling bins are everywhere, as are bike racks and water fountains. And in the food areas, all styrofoam has been eliminated. Vendors are now required to use compostable plates, cups and cutlery.
Solar panels are another big part of the eco-initiative at the CNE.
"We have solar panels here on golf carts, we have solar panels here on games at the Midway, and we even have them on garbage compactors," Ludy explains. "And they really just help contribute and decrease the amount of electricity we're pulling off the grid here, and it's a green form of energy."
Want to see if the fair is the 'greenest in North America' for yourself? The CNE kicks off Friday, August 17 and runs through Labour Day.
