'Monster' tornado spotted by Weather Network meteorologist

June 1, 2010 — This is as close as it gets! Check out this tornado footage captured by one of our TWN meteorologists.

It's one of nature's most fascinating phenomenons. It is also one of the most dangerous.

On Monday, Weather Network meteorologist Greg Stephens was storm-chasing in the United States. He spotted this massive tornado near the community of Campo, Colorado. Within minutes, he had his video camera out and was able to capture this incredible footage.

“All of a sudden we saw this wall cloud ... and we just watched this monster tornado come down to the ground,” he says. “It was on the ground for roughly 10 to 15 minutes.”

Stephens says so far there have been no reports of injuries or major damage.

The National Weather Service will determine where the tornado measures on the Enhanced Fujita scale, but Stephens suspects it could be an F3 or F4.
