Canadian astronaut, Chris Hadfield, called the Bedford, N.S. high school Saturday while aboard the International Space Station (ISS).

Hadfield is on a six-month mission in orbit and as of March will oversee operations as the first Canadian Commander of the ISS.

Former astronaut and Liberal MP Marc Garneau spoke with the audience where he shared his great respect for all that Hadfield has accomplished for his country.

“He will be the first commander of the International Space Station and that speaks very very highly, of not only Canada and our participation in the International space program, but it speaks very highly of Chris.” said Garneau.

Hadfield made the two-day journey to the station on December 19, 2012.
