At the Vancouver Aquarium, no matter what the weather conditions are like, the aquatic animals are always the centre of attention.†
And with a vast schedule of aquatic programs to boast, the aquarium has plenty for all to see.
"We have a number of new sharks and rays on display here, some that have been living at the aquarium behind the scenes for a couple of years that people might not have known we even had," says Nicole Cann with the Vancouver Aquarium. "We donít have a Great White, but you can come and learn about all of their relatives, and the Great White as well, and some of the things you probably†didn't†know about these animals might surprise you."
The Vancouver Aquarium is home to more than 50,000 aquatic creatures and more than 500 different species.†
Seeing how the different species interact and share their space is just one of the many joys of watching aquatic life.
"For us itís really important that each of our exhibits represents a natural ecosystem so all of the animals that you see in all of our exhibits would be found with each other and have the right temperaments to go with each other if they were out in the ocean," explains Cann.†
She adds that with new sharks recently added to the shark exhibit, the animals are trying to figure out who is the "boss."†
Experts say there's also plenty of room in the aquarium for those who prefer their own private space.
