The fire broke out around 4:15 pm local time, in the wooded neighbourhood of Spryfield.
About 60 homes were evacuated as a precaution after flames spread quickly across the community.
After about five hours of containment efforts, crews were able to get the fire under control and the evacuation order was lifted. Officials say a steady rainfall also helped to smoulder any hot spots in the Williams Lake area of Halifax.
According to the Halifax regional fire service, no homes are currently in danger. Fire crews will remain in the area on Tuesday and will monitor the situation.
