September 15, 2012 — After a decade of ups and downs, Canada's Endangered Species Act will be reviewed to make it more efficient, Environment Minister Peter Kent said in an interview with The Canadian Press.

Kent said proposed changes would reflect the impact ecosystems as a whole, rather than just individual species.

The minister admits that some improvements need to be made to the existing act and that changes should be made to improve, and not hinder, the effectiveness of the law.

News that the act will be revised was greeted with relief by some environmental groups.
