If you don't have the time or the means to travel this time of year, Calgary has an oasis all of its own.
Located in the downtown core's shopping centre in Calgary, the Devonian Gardens opened its doors in 1977.
After more than 30 years - and a major facelift - the green space is now home to 550 tropical trees, water features stocked full of fish and a staggering 1.5 million pounds of soil.
And all of it is indoors.
The garden serves as a refuge for many, as well as a monument to the city’s long history of horticulture.
It also helps to keep a small piece of summer alive, even in the dead of winter.
