King penguins test out their outdoor digs at the Calgary Zoo

Staff writers
November 10, 2012 — At least there's someone in Calgary who's happy with the city's recent snowfall.

By all accounts, the king penguins soon made themselves at home.

With the cold turn and snowy weather in Calgary, Alberta, the Calgary Zoo's king penguins were let outside to explore their outdoor habitat for the first time.

While the flock at first seems a little hesitant as they explore their new digs, they soon adapt to the habitat.

Zoo staff say the penguins will be enjoying the winter weather every day until the spring, unless the weather turns unseasonably warm.

Calgary, meantime, got more than 20 cm thanks to the snowstorm that passed through earlier this week. That storm is now making its way through Saskatchewan into Manitoba and parts of northwestern Ontario.
