"We are all off on our maternity leave, and we figure 'Let's get outside,'" said one mom Lisa Fisher. "We all like to be outside doing stuff, so it's a way to get together."
But as any new mother will tell you, things don't always go as planned -- and this year, the mamas have a specific problem.
They're not wearing snowshoes at all.
The snow came late and hasn't stuck around in the Maritimes, and so you could say the Snowshoe Mamas picked a bad year to start.
"We haven't had much snow, so it's been a little trickier to go out," said Jacqueline Fisher, another mom.
"We only hit snowshoes once actually, and that was just me and Jackie," added Fisher.
So, like any good mother, they had to improvise -- at least until Mother Nature brings them a late-season storm this week.
Sometimes even the best laid plan has to change. After all, there's something very important to these mothers at stake, too.
"It wears [the children] out, especially babies." says Fisher. "They get a little fresh air and then they sleep."
