June 28, 2012 — The damage from a mudslide left hundreds of customers without power in New Brunswick Wednesday night.

Heavy rain has been falling across Atlantic Canada and the Maritimes have seen between 30-60 mm of rain.

Including parts of northern New Brunswick, where a mudslide closed a section of a highway Wednesday night.

The ground gave way on a hill near Hartland around 7 pm local time and trees, rocks and mud covered a section of Route 104.

NB Power also reported that nearly 600 customers lost power due to the mudslide. A power pole was damaged as well as a number of hydro lines.

Part of the highway was shut down for several hours as crews worked to clear debris.

There have been no reports of damage or injuries and the exact cause is yet to be determined.
