November 17, 2012 — What exactly are the Reversing Falls?
When the Saint John River runs through a narrow gorge before making its way into the Bay of Fundy, it creates quite the display.
The Reversing Falls make up a series of rapids which are some of the highest tides in the world.
The daily tide forces water to reverse flow, and underwater ledges create the "falls" by sending water in the Saint John River to tumble into a pool that's almost 200 feet deep.
Huge crowds gather to take in this amazing spectacle -- and if you're lucky, you might even spot a seal or two basking nearby.
