May 14, 2012 — Southeast New Mexico is under severe thunderstorm watch following a tornado that touched ground in Socorro County Sunday.

No injuries have been reported

The National Weather Service issued a tornado warning for central Socorro County after reports surfaced that a twister touched ground at about 1:45 p.m. local time. That warning later expired, however a thunderstorm warning continues for southeast New Mexico. 

Gusts of more than 10 miles per hour were reported from a storm approximately 8 miles west of Belen. Weather analysts warn residents that severe thunderstorms could produce another tornado over central Socorro. 

Those within the the weather warning regions are asked to be vigilant and to stay clear from windows and doors. No injuries from the storms have been reported.
