July 13, 2012 — Environment Canada has issued severe thunderstorm warnings as large hail and heavy downpours make their way into parts of southern Ontario.
Severe thunderstorms, large hail and heavy rain has moved into portions of southern Ontario.
Just before 3:00 p.m. Friday, Environment Canada issued a severe thunderstorm warning for the City of Hamilton as marble-to-golfball sized hail and heavy rain fell across the region.
While the large hail is "somewhat of a surprise," Rob Davis, a meteorologist at The Weather Network, say it's not an uncommon during the summer months.
"This storm is moving slowly," he adds. "That means the city could see a significant rainfall before the storm pushes through the region."
The storm appears to be weakening as it moves in a northward direction towards Aldershot.
"Severe storms are now tracking towards Brantford, Cambridge and Kitchener-Waterloo," Davis says. "The main concerns will be large hail and local flooding."
