Now that spring is here, it's a good time to assess the damages that winter weather can wreak on a home.
Water damage is one of the more common weather-related damages a home can sustain during the colder months.
Darren Arseneau of Durham Home Inspection says it's important to seal cracks in your home's foundation to prevent water from seeping into the basement.
"When we're looking at our house we need to make sure that water's naturally draining away," he says.
"Improper slopes towards the house creates the opportunity for water to get into the basement."
And then there's the roof.
Arseneau says that homeowners need to secure all aspects of the outside and make sure water doesn't enter into the structure.
Experts say the rule of thumb is that homeowners should budget 1% of their home's value for annual maintenance.
