Still in need of a gift or two this holiday season?

Consider the gift of safety.

That's the message Environment, Labour and Justice Minister Janice Sherry is promoting.

"Emergency preparedness and home fire safety items can be especially good ideas for people who are difficult to buy for," she said at a press briefing.

"The gift of safety is always a gift of love.” 

Here are a few safety-themed gift ideas, courtsey of Minister Sherry:

  • A fire extinguisher
  • ID tags for pets 
  • A corded home phone (cordless phones won’t work during a power outage)
  • A battery-operated flashlight 
  • A vehicle emergency kit or first aid kit A first aid kit 
  • A vehicle cell phone charger
  • New smoke alarms
