Sales were down for winter boots this past season because the weather was so mild. Now, retailers in the Maritimes are hoping that the recent mild spell will kick start sales of spring and summer sandals.
"It brings people in. People love shopping for sandals to try on with their new shorts and sun dresses. It makes them happy," says Amy Gallagher at Service Shoe Repair in Moncton. "They're out and about shopping and doing things outside with the kids, it's great."
"I want to get a pair of sandals for the summer and a good pair of walking shoes," said customer Stacy Wilson.
Gallagher says the wedge sandal has been a popular choice so far this year, offering people both style and comfort.
Sandals in pastel colours also seem to be what most people are going for.
"I am ready to just get the boat in the water and get out on the beach and just enjoy what the Maritime summer has to offer," said Wilson.
Temperatures across the Maritimes soared into the 20s on Monday and several places broke previous daytime records. Mild conditions are expected to continue across the region through Tuesday.
