September 25, 2012 — Relentless storms have been hitting the U.K., bringing flooding rains and, in one case, blowing sea foam into a sea-side town.

A series of storms have been hiting the U.K. this week, flooding entire communities and causing sea foam to submerge a sea-side town.
In Aberdeen, Scotland Tuesday, residents of Footdee woke to find their town literally awash in sea foam churned by the waves, then blown ashore by the strong winds. The foam left cars, streets and houses looking as if they had been hit by a sudden snow storm.
In other parts of the U.K., staggering amounts of rain have been reported. Thousands of homes are considered to be at risk, and railways and roads have already been submerged.
In York, rivers have burst their banks in some cases. In the Newcastle area, homes are said to be close to collapse.
An 11 year-old boy was struck by lightning Wednesday. He is considered to be in life-threatening condition.
Some are considering the floods to be the worst they've seen in decades. Hundreds of people spent Tuesday night in temporary shelters.
The worst of the rain is over, but more wet weather is possible in the coming days.
