Ontario sees tornado watches, high humidex

July 4, 2012 — A powerful storm system pushed into Ontario from the United States Tuesday, drenching parts of the area and sparking some tornado watches.

On Monday, Environment Canada issued a series of thunderstorm watches and warnings for northwestern Ontario -- and on Tuesday, additional storms moved into the province.
Callers to the The Weather Network Stormline began reporting dark clouds across the region Tuesday afternoon and heavy rain moved through multiple communities during the dinner hour.
On Tuesday evening, Environment Canada issued tornado watches for parts of northeastern Ontario, including: Kapuskasing, Moosonee, Timmins, Iroquois Falls, Chapleau and Missinaibi Lake.
The tornado watches - along with all thunderstorm watches - were dropped a few hours later.
On Wednesday, storms rolled through southwestern Ontario. In Windsor, a super cell brought twoonie-sized hail and 43 mm of rain to the airport. The storm also sent the temperature plunging from 38 degrees to 18.
The risk of storms will continue through Wednesday evening and overnight.
