Let no one say Visit Scotland
doesn't know how to run an eye-catching marketing campaign.
Meet Fivla and Vitamin, the Scottish tourism agency's Shetland Pony ambassadors.
The pretty pair keep the winter nip off with a pair of knitted Shetland cardigans.
"To celebrate the launch of the Year of Natural Scotland, we were looking for a photo which encapsulated Scotlandís stunning natural landscapes, highlighted somewhere a little off the beaten track, and included some true Scottish locals to reflect what this year offers to visitors," Visit Scotland spokesman Michael McCuish told the Weather Network. "Shetland, and in particular Shetland Ponies, instantly sprang to mind."
McCuish said the Shetlands were chosen for the shoot due to the islands' iconic ponies, abundance of bird life and more than a hundred sandy beaches, as well as major cultural events.†
Fivla, the white pony, is 17 years old while Vitamin is 18.
The "ambassadors" seem to have been well-chosen. The adorable photos -- shot by photographer Rob McDougall and posted to Tourism Scotland's website
-- have been making the Internet rounds since being published on Wednesday.
The whole shoot was in keeping with the Shetland theme too -- Fivla and Vitamin's snazzy duds were put together by Shetland Islands-based knitter Doreen Brown, while the ponies themselves make their home at Thordale Shetland Stud, also on the islands.
McCuish said it "seemed fitting" to incorporate the Shetland cardigans, as Shetland wool and knitwear tend to be in high demand.
