Space shuttle Discovery blasted off Monday morning with seven astronauts on board in one of NASA's final servicing missions to the International Space Station.

The weather was calm at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida, which gave officials the green light to launch at 06:21 EDT.

The space station, which is 355km above Earth, is expected to be finished in September after 12 years of construction.

Discovery is scheduled to arrive at the space station on Wednesday, and return to Earth on April 18 at 8:35 a.m. ET.
