February 27, 2012 — Heavy snow blanketed parts of Ontario over the weekend. Some residents are digging out.
While the winter storm forecast for Ontario Friday may not have brought as much snow as expected to the city of Toronto, heavy snow piled up in other parts of the province over the weekend.
"We had significant accumulations north and east of the Greater Toronto Area," says Dayna Vettese, a meteorologist at The Weather Network. "30 cm of snow fell in Wiarton, and 10 cm fell in Trenton, Ontario."
Heavy snow fell throughout the day Friday in the Ottawa area as well. 15 cm was recorded by the time all was said and done.
"Gusty winds were also present across the region, which lead to blowing and drifting snow," notes Vettese.
More snow is expected across northeastern Ontario Monday as an Alberta Clipper crosses the area. Up to 10 cm of snow is forecast through Tuesday.
Motorists are reminded to adjust their driving habits accordingly, and stay up to date on weather watches and warnings by checking the Alerts section of the website.
