July 1, 2012 — Winnipeggers showed all of Canada how much they truly love their city and country -- as thousands of participants, dressed in red and white t-shirts, assembled into one of Canada's largest living flags at the Manitoba Legislative Grounds on Sunday.

Leading up to the event, BC challenged the Downtown BIZ (Downtown Winnipeg Business Improvement Zone) record in the goal of creating Canada's largest living flag, as well as Victoria and Calgary. The official results are yet to be announced.

“It was truly amazing to see such community pride today,” said Stefano Grande, Executive Director of the Downtown BIZ in a press release. "Our flag was made up of people from all walks of life – a real multicultural mosaic and snapshot truly representative of our downtown community. Not only did our living flag look bigger than last year, we showed just how much civic pride and love we have for our city.”

The weather was especially graceful for the event. With a bright, sunny and festive backdrop, the 2nd annual Canada Day Living event brought Winnipeggers of all ages and communities together to celebrate their love of their country.

The event is part of a larger push towards 2017, Canada’s 150th birthday with hopes to engage and mobilize even more Winnipeggers.
