February 17, 2012 — It's time for our weekly recap of the best videos from the past seven days. Take a look at the top ten videos that made the cut.
We get a lot of footage each week here at The Weather Network, so we decided to share our favourites with you. Here are the weather videos that had people talking in Canada and around the world this week.
#10 -- Near Grand Bend, Ontario. In the summertime, Grand Bend is a mecca for beach-goers…but in the winter, it can look rather menacing. Cameraman Nate captured these scenes as high winds whipped up Lake Huron.
#9 -- Toronto, Ontario. Normally snow in Toronto wouldn’t make the Top 10…it does this year! Anywhere from 5 to 15 centimetres fell in Southern Ontario…and the strong winds created whiteouts.
#8 -- Moncton, New Brunswick. Same story in Moncton. Snowmobilers and contracted plow operators likely rejoiced…but those with shovels in hand were likely grumbling a bit.
#7 -- Northeastern Italy. Rescue crews in Italy have been struggling to get to people in remote villages cut off by heavy snow. There have been concerns about roof collapses as we right across the country.
#6 -- San Pedro de Atacama, Chile. After unusually heavy rain, it was a deluge in the world’s driest desert. It was such an odd sight that parents had their kids pose next to the raging waters. We’re not recommending that to anyone.
#5 -- Near Stephenville Crossing, NL. Dwayne must have had a white-knuckle drive on Monday. He was on the Trans-Canada highway during white out conditions.
#4 -- Havre-aux-Maison, Quebec. That same storm brought icy precipitation to the Iles de le Madaleine. Ice coated power lines and brought the poles down. Thank you to a viewer for sending this one in.
#3 -- Antananarivo, Madagascar. A category 4 cyclone with sustained winds of at least 230 km/h tore through Madagascar on Tuesday. Eighty per cent of homes traditional to the island were destroyed.
#2 -- Buzau County, Romania. An unbelievable winter continues in Europe…and this man who lives 100 km away form Bucharest, took HOURS to dig out his house that was completely buried in snow.
#1 -- Auckland, New Zealand. It’s been a while since we’ve seen one of these! A huge waterspout appeared in the waters of Auckland, New Zealand. There was no damage, but spectators were treated to quite the sight!
Those are videos ten through one for this week. Don't forget to tune in to The Weather Network on TV every Friday morning for our weekly roundup of the top weather videos of the week.
