On Sunday, Toronto Pearson International Airport recorded a high of 18.4C, replacing the previous daily heat record of 17.2C set in 1938.

"The same low pressure system that brought wintry weather to northern Ontario and the Prairies has brought warm air into central and southern Ontario from the Gulf of Mexico," explains Dayna Vettese, a meteorologist at The Weather Network.

"We saw warm temperatures throughout the region."

Meanwhile, parts of the Prairies are still digging out from ablast of winter that brought up to 30 cm of snow to Alberta and Saskatchewan, prompting several accidents and road closures.
