A powerful storm slammed the northeastern US this week, causing significant damage to at least one woman's home in Ohio.
Kim Brustoski was at work when she received a call from her neighbour, notifying her of the damage.
She then had to make the 45 minute drive home to find her newly-restored century home demolished by a huge oak tree.
Neither Kim or her four year-old daughter were inside -- good fortune, because one of the rooms beneath the massive oak was the little girl's bedroom.
"I was grateful my daughter wasn't there and that it didn't happen overnight," Kim says.
Gale-force winds topped a number of trees across parts of Ohio on Monday, but Kim's tree was completely ripped out of the ground - roots and all - along with part of the lawn and gas lines.
While the storm was a crushing blow to Kim and her family, she's thankful for all the support she's received.
"I have amazing neighbours," she says, noting that it's important to be thankful.
"You can never know what will happen," Kim says. "At any instant."
