After strengthening into a hurricane early Monday, Emilia continued to pick up steam as it swirls over the Pacific.

Despite becoming a Category 4 storm, the hurricane remains far from land and no coastal watches or warnings were issued. It has since been downgraded to a Category 2 hurricane and additional weakening is forecast.

Emilia is centred about 1,100 km south of the southern tip of Baja California.

Meanwhile, farther west, Daniel weakened to a tropical storm and is tracking toward the central Pacific.
