Utah woman in critical condition following avalanche

January 13, 2013 — A 43-year old woman is fighting to stay alive after being caught in an avalanche Saturday.

Officials say a woman and a man were skiing in the Millcreek Canyon area when the avalanche triggered just after 5 p.m. on Saturday. 
Her partner was able to locate her under the buried snow, and rescue her.

He he had to resuscitate her and call EMS crews for assistance.

The woman is now in a nearby hospital in critical condition.
Authorities say things could have been worse, but the pair was equipped with avalanche gear, contributing to the woman's survival.
