July 27, 2012 — A temperature over 30°C in Vancouver is so rare that before 2009, it had happened less than 20 times in recorded history.

But in July, 2009, the city sweltered under a rare heat wave.
For three days in a row - the most consecutive days on record - the temperature was above 30°C.
On July 29, 2009, a new all-time record was set, but it didn't stand for long.
The very next day the mercury climbed to 34.4°C -- the highest temperature ever recorded in the city.
