The holiday season has begun and while it can be a joyful time of year, there is certainly a level of stress involved. Including on the roads.
“It's important to remember that when we are behind the wheel, our number one priority is to get to our destination safely,” says Joe Sears with Drive Wise.
Adjusting your driving habits is crucial when conditions become poor and drivers are encouraged to do a bit of winter maintenance as well.
“You want to have winter tires, you want to check your tire pressure, windshield wipers are they the winter ones and are they in good shape? And have you got some extra windshield washer fluid?” notes Sears. He adds that another important thing to consider is the amount of gifts packed in the car.
“We end up with too much weight in the vehicle and sometimes you get those big gifts, which block your visibility.”
For those with longer travel times, monitoring the weather is extremely important. Car rental companies keep a close eye on the forecast during the busy holiday rush.
“We have to be on top of things and know exactly what the weather is going to entail for them,” says Deanna Parker with Budget Rent a Car.
Driving experts suggest to rent a vehicle that's similar to your own so that it's not as much of an adjustment.
