February 16, 2010 — The weather hasn't been ideal for the winter games and fans are paying the price.
It was a weekend of cancellations for both training sessions and races at the Vancouver games.
Yesterday, around 8,000 tickets for Monday's and Tuesday's snowboard cross events were refunded.
After a combination of rain, fog and melting snow, officials announced that the standing area at the Cypress venue was extremely unsafe.
And today is another day of disappointment for 20,000 eager fans hoping to watch the games.
Rain continues to turn Cypress Mountain into a muddy mess.
Standing room tickets will be refunded for men's and women's snowboard halfpipe for Wednesday and Thursday. Tickets for the ski cross competition on the 21st and 23rd will also be returned. As well as for the snowboard parallel giant slalom on February 26th and 27th.
The organizing committee says this is a step that needs to be taken solely because the area is not safe. Rain has washed away a foot of snow in the area and puddles are thigh high.
Although weather hasn't been ideal for the games, it didn't seem to phase Canadian skier Alex Bilodeau.
