Sandstorm Sweeps Across Egypt

April 11, 2010 — A sandstorm that swept across parts of Egypt has forced the closure of a major highway and ports of the Suez Canal.

The dust kicked up by the sandstorm created visibility problems and even lead to three and a half metre waves on the Red Sea.

On the southern end of the Suez Canal, the Twwfik and Ain Sukhna ports were forced closed by the storm.

Local estimates say the dusty winds were moving at thirty five kilometres per hour. Sandstorms are common in Egypt this time of year.
