Lava lake in Kilauea Volcano reaches its highest level

Staff writers
October 18, 2012 — Hawaii's Kilauea Volcano has become a hot bed of activity.

A chorus of steady cracks and booms can be heard from Kilauea Volcano as a swirling lake of lava causes its walls to shift.

Scientists say the volcano's lava lake has been rising steadily for months, reaching its highest point ever on October 5th.

Geologists are keeping a close eye on Kilauea, but they aren't predicting an outcome just yet.

According to the USGS, the lava levels could continue to fluctuate.
