December 20, 2008 — Power outages across the Maritimes have put a damper on the holidays for some. Rain and strong winds to continue throughout Christmas Day.
40,000 customers were without power Christmas Eve in Nova Scotia. Strong winds helped to deposit sea salt on powerlines. As of late Christmas Eve, 4,000 customers were still without power
Rain and strong winds are still the main story for the Maritimes with 20 - 30 mm of rain possible for Christmas Day. Winds could reach up to 90 km/h as well.
Rainfall Warnings are in effect for parts of Nova Scotia and Newfoundland. Wind Warnings are in effect for New Brunswick and parts of the Gaspe Peninsula. A Blizzard Warnings is in effect for the Goose Bay area of Labrador.
