A low pressure system developing off the East coast of the United States will move through the Maritimes this weekend.
The western Maritimes are under the greatest threat with Environment Canada issuing Special Weather Statements calling for strong winds and between 50 - 100 ml of rain for the weekend.
The system will move through PEI as early as Friday afternoon. New Brunswick and Nova Scotia will likely see rain beginning Saturday. Newfoundland will not be affected until Monday.
Currently centred off the East coast of the US between North and South Carolina, the system is moving slowly westward and could develop into a subtropical or tropical cyclone later on Thursday.
Regardless of the status, this system will bring strong winds, coastal flooding and dangerous rip tides to portions of the US East coast during the next couple of days.
