Damaging winds whipped across eastern Newfoundland Tuesday morning, making for some treacherous driving conditions.

Gusts of over 80 km/h were reported in St. John's. The winds were so powerful that a transport truck toppled on the Trans-Canada Highway west of Veterans Memorial Drive.

Strong winds are expected to continue through the evening hours in the southeastern part of the province. Light rain and mild temperatures are also forecast.

On Monday night, thunderstorms were rumbling across parts of the Maritimes. Heavy rain and gusty winds were also reported.
