A system tracking towards Montana from the Pacific coast will bring snow to the area around Assiniboia west of Estevan and south of Regina.
Snow will begin falling during the overnight period and will continue into Saturday. Accumulations could reach 20 cm in some places.
What makes this system unusual are the strong northerly winds that will create blizzard conditions with blowing snow and poor visibility. The snow is expected to end Saturday evening.
As part of this system, temperatures are expected to plummet to record lows over the weekend and into next week. Cold temperatures of this nature can cause frostbite rapidly so caution should be used.
Warnings are in effect for parts of southwestern Saskatchewan.
